UGIFICU is committed to strengthening Islamic cooperative finance through institutional support, governance, and innovation. It was established to deepen the principles and practices of Islamic finance in Uganda while remaining economically viable and sustainable.

Who We Are

Uganda Islamic Finance Cooperative Union Limited (UGIFICU) was registered in 2025 under number P.27317/RCS and is supervised and regulated under the Cooperative Societies Act Cap. 112 and the Uganda Cooperative Societies Regulations, 1992.

Our Foundation

UGIFICU is founded on the dual purpose of cooperatives: a social purpose focused on implementing and deepening Islamic finance principles, and a commercial purpose focused on building a viable, growing, and sustainable institution.

UGIFICU aligns cooperative efforts with community needs, emphasizes disciplined resource management, and promotes both individual growth and holistic community development.

Main Goal & Specific Objectives

UGIFICU’s main goal is to promote Islamic financial services in Uganda through practical programmes, advocacy, mentoring, networking, research, and institutional support.

  • Develop and conduct education and training programmes on proper Islamic Finance Shariah-compliant principles and practices for safe and sound operations.
  • Carry out publicity and public relations activities that broaden awareness and public understanding of Islamic Finance Cooperative Societies and SACCOs.
  • Lobby and advocate for prudent legislation for Islamic Finance implementing cooperative societies.
  • Design and offer general and Islamic financial management programmes.
  • Promote networking and linkage between Islamic Finance Shariah-compliant Cooperative Societies and SACCOs.
  • Carry out on-site mentoring of staff, boards, and supervisory committees through demonstrations, field attachments, and study visits.
  • Engage in research and supply related information as required by members.
  • Provide international linkages with world bodies having similar objectives in Islamic Finance Shariah-compliant Cooperative Societies and SACCOs.
